Yes, as you can see, I'm the newest member of the highly esteemed cLub, of L lens owners. Granted... I don't have the lens yet, but that's a mere technicality

I don't know how it happened. I was browsing B&H, and before I knew it, I was looking at the invoice page. D'OH!

Now I can get back to my regular style of shooting. YES!!!! :D Don't get me wrong... wildlife and portraits are cool and all, they just aren't my thing. I can't wait!!!!!!!! I guess I'll have to start hauling the tripod around again now though :?

Congrats. I just got mine last week along with the 100-400L. I think I'm done shopping for awhile.

Good job. You have the courage of your convictions!

I look forward to seeing some of your wide shots now.

I may pass on the 100-400 f4L, for a sigma and 1.4 TC. I'm going to have a hard enough time hiding this lens. I'd have NO chance hiding a big white one. The 17-40 can almost pass for my 50mm f1.8, with cheapo fisheye adapter connected. It's even got a red stripe  When it was on my G2, it looked really funny... like I had "L" on it. I should take a picture of it on there, and post it. Actually, no... a G2 parading as a cam with "L" is just embarassing

drisley-
I will definitely let you know how I like it. I've read nothing but good about it, so that's what I expect.

Tom-
Speaking of convicted... that's the way I'm feeling right now. I didn't tell Melani I bought it, and I'm not going to unless she asks about it. She's not too thrilled with me spending money on photography. Hey what else am I going to spend it on? Food and shelter? Bleh, "L" is where it's at.

I'm kidding of course. I only got this lens because of the great reviews, and the fairly cheap price for the quality. It being an L lens had little to do with it. It just seemed like the best lens overall, for what I want to shoot.

congratulations! the gate is open ;)

I'm also trying to get into the "club" - I'm hunting on the ebay for 100-300 f/5.6 L. I know, it's more like sneaking through the back door, but I don't care ;)

Haha, it doesn't matter how you get in, as long as you brag about it when you do

Well Laz, years from now, when you hit rock bottom and lose everything and you're sitting in that cardboard box with nothing to keep you warm but your dozen L's, we will all point back to this date and say: "This is it... this is where his troubles all started."

JK Laz, congrats on the new lens and we can't wait to see what you have in store. I myself just got the 100mm f/2.8 macro (no more L's for quite a while) and can't wait to have some time to try it out.

Yeah luckily the 17-40L is roughly the same size as the 28-135IS. I don't think my girlfriend has noticed this lens yet. I haven't brought out the Great White in her presence though. I think she might notice it this weekend when we head out to a nearby wildlife preserve. I don't think I'll be able to convince her that I painted the Sigma white.

Chuck-
I may very well be living in a cardboard box someday... but not because I ran out of money, but because my wife and I had reached irreconcilable differences, concerning photography :)

Julie-
Yes, pretty much. If you ever get interested enough, you can click the "some stuff" link in my sig, or the "www" link.

Chris-
I wish you luck. Maybe you should paint an old crap lens white, show it to your girlfriend, and tell her you're considering doing that to all of your lenses. Then when she sees the real deal, she'll think it's a new paint job on one of your old ones.

Not.

The only real solution is to hook her on photography too ;)

Chris

I think you are going to love that lens, I think it will suit your style well. Isnt the Internet and a Credit Card a dangerous combo. Both of my L's came about much as you describe, a couple of beers, onto the Internet and ooops. Cost me a new car for the wife when I bought the 100-400

 ROFLMAO

I presume you know that "I'm in the club" is a slang term for being pregnant?

Anyway, congratulations on your purchase. The 17-40L is a great lens and a real bargain. I am sure you will achieve stunning results with it!

p.s. Watch out for cravings :P ;)

I don't think we will have to wait 9 months to see the results of this blessed event. Laz will likely be wowing us with images from, if not of, his new baby very soon, and I can hardly wait. :D

You must try the Sigma 12-24. To landscapes it's simply gorgeous. Not an L lens, not even a Canon lens, but a cute baby!!!

Welcome to the club - the 17-40 is a very good lens and it will suit your photography style well.

BTW, if you were really a nice guy, you'd have left the credit card number up there so that the rest of us could enjoy a new lens as well. ;)
