Usually i kept my second body just for a backup but today i want to shoot with both ..is it enough to sync. their times in cameras..or should i maybe sync them both through canon software ...how it works

I just sync the time on the cameras, just set them both to the same time and hit SET at the same time, they will be synced.

I plug them into the computer and have the Canon software set the times to exactly the same as the computer. Reduces potential for human error.

But, you can only set it to the minute, not the second, so files still get mixed up for me. How can I get around this? Thanks!

Really? When I hit "sync to PC" I assumed the camera time was set the same as the PCs, down to the second or millisecond. I haven't tried it and my cameras are away, anyone want to give it a go?

Worst case, even if the cameras are off, you can always fix the timestamp using software like breesebrowser.

I wish CS3 could do something like that. I've only had this problem once, I ended up using DIM to rename the files as it pulled them off multiple cards and then doing a bit of manual sorting to get them properly numbered. What a pain in the butt.

Don't know what the canon software is like on the PC as we always use our Macs to time sync our bodies but on the Mac it syncs to the second not to the minute. We know this because 2 weeks after syncing them for the first time we did it again and they were all within or 3 seconds of each other except for the 20D which had drifted by nearly a minute and its done the same every few weeks we have synced them since. Its very nice having all bodies properly synced and it takes 2 secs to do it via a computer and makes PP much easier when you have several bodies involved imho.

yup, just smack the SET button on the three cams at the same time. Low tech but effective. :)

A guy who works for me uses that method, he got the times right but the dates were 6 days apart...

I always have problems. I guess I need to get breezebrowser.

I sync to the computer time using canon utilities. Before I tried the manual method of syncing on the camera, and they were still a good 30 seconds off. Not a big deal if only one body is in use, but when both my wife and I shoot, it's a bit strange to see the pictures as they don't match exactly...

That reminds me of the first time I had this girl second shoot for me earlier this year, totally forgot to sync her camera, downloaded the images to my computer, which automatically put them in a folder by date, I couldn't find the images!! Her camera was set to April 15th and we shot the wedding on June 1st!!!

I finally found the images in a folder dated 04_15_2007, go figure! I had to do some serious timestamp editing to get those lined up! lol.

That's what I do... I make sure that the date AND time are correct though! When you do it once, they don't change that much, but I still resync them before every wedding

We sync the time stamps on 4 1D platforms w/Canon software - takes less than a minute - syncs to the second on a PC.

hahhaa that's funny.
Actually, when I batch rename the files, they get renamed by TIME only so it wouldn't matter if it was set to incorrect dates... unless it's a multi day affair.

I haven't opened my Canon software in at least a year...I don't remember a feature for synchronizing multiple cameras...I'll have to check that out. Then again, I'd have to dig out the USB cables...which I also haven't used in quite some time.

Maybe I'll stick with the manual method.

wow, I've *never*, ever ever installed the canon software, even for my old A40. What does it do besides sync time and download pictures into a clunky interface?
