Anybody have advice on submitting some Travel Photos to an agency? Do you have to have a lot of photos? How about just 5 or 6 that I think are exceptional and they might be interested in? What kind of rate do they pay for unsolicited photos? Any guidelines?

You know after reading that thread from dpreview, an article I read recently really comes to mind. I just wish I could remember where I reas it.
Basically it said, make your money where you can. Now as most of you know I do motorsports, I make a little here and there and it is cool to see how others react when they find out what I do as a side line but, make money on it? No, it is too competitive. Editors have their favorites and they use them. Then you have a lot of people who shoot and give away their images just for the access. People might have a better connection than you do and they will get the nod over you. Anyway back to the article, one of the things it said was if your shooting a major event, you have competition and lots of it. Which is very true. Now you take a little league baseball game, or kids soccer and a guy with some decent equipment and a good eye, along with anticipation and quick reflexes can spend an afternoon shooting some kids playing ball and make a decent amount of money off of it.
I guess what I am really trying to get across here is look for someplace you can shoot where there is no competition, except for mom and her 1.3 megapixel P&S sitting in the stands.

I second what IndyJeff said. I recently found an RC Flying Club that no one was photographing. I started taking pictures there three weeks ago and have already sold a number of shots with more on order. It helps to find a niche market and work it. I spend alot of time talking to the pilots and trying to learn something about their craft.
