I assume you just press the lens as close to the window as possible? What if you can't get the composition you want unless you lean back a little? Are there tricks/tips to reduce the glare you'd get from the window? I took this picture a week ago while in the airport in Chicago. While I think the compposition was what I wanted, the reflection off the glass ruins the picture for me and I wanted to learn how to reduce that.

Well, a polarizing filter would help to reduce or eliminate reflections. You'll have to make your viewing angle to the window closer to 45 degree's though, which might affect framing. It'll cut light a lot too, but with a static image like that, a long shutter might be okay. It could boost sky color too, which might be nice....

if you can't open the window, a circular polarizer filter would work well. also, make sure to keep the camera parallel to the glass (don't angle it); that should take away some of the glare.

Even with a hood, how far back would I be able to be from the window?

This is a total newbie question, how does the polarizer help reduce that..technically speaking?

Even with a hood, how far back would I be able to be from the window? Press the rubber hood against the glass to help eliminate reflections.

Franks answer is a good one....except on bumpy Michigan roads.

Don't forget to steer with your knees, and hold your cigarette in your right hand.

I do it like this (actually my wife with her little Fuji f20 while I drove, isn't this what you meant :) )
