So I'm in the market for a new bag. I have no clue what I'm really looking for. I have some old london fog bag that my parents gave me for my Rebel fim camera, but the 70-200mm f/4L is the only thing that will fit in it snugly with the hood.
I don't want to spend a fortune, but I do need something that offers protection and that will allow me to carry around a 100-300, 28-70 f/4-5.6, and my 70-200 with my XT. From what I read the 70-200 doesn't fit in the Lowepro Sligshot 200. What are some other bags that it will fit?
Thanks,
-Mike

Can a mod/admin please move this thread to the accesories? Just realized there's another forum for this subject. Thanks.

You've got plenty of options. Are you looking for a backpack or a sling? I prefer backpacks since I ride my motorcycle and bicycle most of the time I go out shooting.

Preferably a backpack, not a fan of only one strap on my shoulder. It gets a bit annoying, but it's not uncomfortable. Either is good for me. Oh ya will the 70-200mm f/4L fit the Slingshot 200? Because I have a $30 best buy gift card that could pay for some of it if it does. No regular bags, I want a backpack or sling.
Thanks,
-Mike

Take a look at Domke's F-802 Reporter's Satchel (with additional 720-230 3-compartment insert) or the F-803 Camera Satchel. Highly recommend, whatever you get, their US Post Office Shoulder Pad.

I bought and used a Lowepro "Compu Daypack". It is a padded backpack with a dedicated compartment for a camera and several lenses, a separate compartment for a laptop computer, and yet another compartment for other stuff. It was not too expensive, about US$80 at Best Buy.
I used it to carry a 17" laptop, Canon 300D, Sigma 12-24, Canon 17-85, and Canon 70-300 to France and England last month. It worked fine.
It does not, however, have room for very large telephoto lenses in the camera compartment. My 70-300mm would not quite fit. I carried it in the "other stuff" compartment.

I've had the Lowepro Slingshot 300 AW for about a week or so. It's the big brother of the Slingshot 200 AW, so it also has the single shoulder strap/sling.
I'm packing the gear in my signature (plus two filter cases, the manual, and a kneeling pad), and find if everything is in the bag (maximum weight), it's a bit heavy on my one shoulder for more than 1/2 hour (but I'm past 65).
I bought a Lowpro "Belt and buckle" and I've arranged for a shoe repair shop to add this to make a second shoulder strap so that my left shoulder carries some of the weight when I'm walking for any time or distance.
I will simply have to unsnap the second should strap and the waist belt to swing the bag in front of me for easy access to my gear.
I considered a true backpack but I'd have to take it off and set it on something to access the gear. I'm often in the field (literally) and the only place to set it is in dirt.
EDIT: I think the true backpacks are a bit larger than the 300 AW. Hopefully someday, they will make a 350 or 400.;)

I just ordered a Kata HB-205 GDC Hikers Backpack. I hike with my camera quite often. I will post a review in the Accessories and Storage forum later in the week.

This picture kind of got me wondering about the canon bag:

How does the Canon 200eg rate? It's fairly priced and seems like quite a bit of room for lenses and the camera. I know it's not the prettiest thing in the world. How is overall build quality and padding on it compare to others?
Thanks again,
-Mike

I use two main bags...
The Tamrac Expedition 4 for when I need to do a lot of walking... I need to reverse the hood on the 70-200 for it to fit when attached to a body...
The Lowpro Magnum AW for when I need a lot of gear...
Sorry I've not used the Canon bag...
Update... Remember you need a bag your gear can grow in to...

i love my Rover AW II
http://www.lowepro.com/Products/Backpacks/allWeather/Rover_AW_II.aspx
thats gone fit your gear (even some more), and you have some space on the top to put your sandwiches or what ever in! i allways take that one for hikes or climbing trips into the alps! just fits my harness and shoes as well, and the chocolate! ;)
i don't think the tripod hold is of any use (mine is just to heavy) but it fits very nice on the back, and the hipsling is very good as well makes a good support so you don't have all the wight on your shoulders! and it's easy (quick) accsses to the camera!
