Is there an Alloy version now?
I thought B+W were all Brass.

maxsaver.net has no stock of the 77mm Brass version, only Alloy versions.

Just wondering, since I need to bag myself 2 of these...trying to decide what to do. Wait another month of so for them to get it in stock, or just go with the Alloy version...

I found myself with the same problem. I ended up just ordering the alloy version (from the HK ebay supplier).

But brass is an alloy of copper and zink, so might not the two names represent the same thing?

Not sure...on the B+W official website it doesn't mention anything about different versions...so that's got me wondering what the deal is with this...

There is just the brass version, not 2 seperate versions.

I was reading something from a filter retailer on the web recently, that mentions the classic brass or the alloy version of the B&W. I'll see if I can find that mention againl

Aha...found the mention on 2filter.com

"Please note: All of the B+W filters 2filter.com sells are mounted in B+W German brass rings only, In markets around the world you can purchase B+W filters in mounting ring materials other than brass. The boxes and the filters look the same in a picture. When you feel the quality of the brass mount you know you have the right one. "

So does that imply that alloy ones are fake/imitations?

I picked up 2 Brass ones today online. (non-HK, US dealer)
It cost me $25 more each, but I figure I should just bite the bullet and get the Brass one.

maxsaver.net, popular in POTN as a cheap source for filters only carry alloy ones. Brass ones are out of stock for another month.

Kinda makes me wonder about the whole shop now...

It would appear that B+W might allow non-German production sites to make rings with other alloys, for price advantage for sales in those price-sensitive markets. And if you buy one, it is a B+W, but without the advantages of the German-manufactured original article. This is what the 2filter.com comment makes it sound like...it did not call them 'imitations'

OTOH it might be impossible for B+W to clamp down on the fake makers, and they really are fakes with no connection to the original factory.

Why do you need a filter?

Just kidding...I use them. ;) I have noticed the alloy discription on the HK filters. At least they were kind enough to disclose that information. I bought from those guys a bunch of times. Thanks for the info all...
