I will be acquiring the following in less than a month:
30D
10-22mm
24-105L mm -- maybe, if I can scrape up the cash. This entire set, minus the 24-105, is already costing me close to 2500!!)
Battery Grip
Cokin Z Filter Holder + Lee Grad Set
Filters (B+W MRC UV & B+W Slim MRC CP)
Slik Carbon Fiber Tripod with 488rc2 (both combined weigh 3lbs)
Extra battery, CF, lens cleaner, blower
I'm going on a tour of China for 3 weeks. I expect quite alot of dayhikes, wandering about cities, and general traveling (bus, ferry, plane, walking, etc). The Slingshot series seem to offer just what I need: light, easy access, weather protection, and comforatable. Since I will be doing lots of hiking, comfort and wieght are of big importance.
Will the slingshot 100 hold the above gear set. Will it work for my intended purposes? If not, do you suggest the 200 instead? Will the tripod attach to the outside of the bag?
Thanks!

if you're going to china in 3 weeks, depending where you are going you'll have to prepare for rain. Not some rain, but a LOT of rain. There's currently some very serious flooding going on and monsoon is only picking up. You may want to look into something a little more weatherproof, like the lowerpro dryzone rover, which is completely waterproof. The bag is certainly both bigger and heavier though....

You'll probably need a 200 or to be safe, a 300.
I had both the 100 and 200.

I'm going to china August 16...is that still rainy season?
I've taken a look (online) at the dryzone bags. The dryzone 100 looked kind of interesting. Maybe that size will work. But then the ease of use and heavy factor kick in. The rover looks kind of big. I have heard something about lots of rain in china right now...
Hmm, from the sounds of it, the 100 sounds to small. I was hoping it would work because of the small size (I don't want to be carrying big honking packs up mountains). I really really like the small size! If it's too small, maybe a 200 then. How water resistant is the pull over thing on the slingshot. If I'm hiking and a monsoon ensues, will my camera gear stay dry? I don't, of course, plan on swimming the Yangzi river with my pack on...

Today I bought the 200. I think the 100 may be a little small. The 300 is the size of a nice large size backpack.

well I went ahead and ordered the slingshot 100. I think I'll be able to fit my gear inside. I'm a bit worried about the tripod, but I've heard you can slip one of the tripod legs through the strap on the side. I'll let you guys know how the backpack works out during my hike through china.

I'll be in China in about a month.. I'll have the 300 -- worked well in Paris -- and a crumpler 4mdh for the times I take short walks in the cities. Hope the 200 works out. I just don't put everything in the 300 and it keeps it fairly light.

I've tried fitting my XTi (400D) with grip in the 100 and it was an effort to get it in and out of there so you might want to see if you can upgrade the order to a 200 IMO.
I came back from a 3 week trip to China about 3 weeks ago and I used CompuRover AW.
With my laptop, 400D + grip, Tamron 28-75, Tokina 12-24, Sigma flash, blower and accessories etc it came to about 12kg.
Not too bad a weight when you have the waist belt on.
