Am a little confused on this situation. I really want to photograph an up coming sporting event. It clearly states on the organizations website that photography is allowed as long as photos are used for personal use and not for commercial use.

Now does this mean I cannot sell any of my shots even tho I own them 100%? Where do I stand legally on this? I am sure this is common at many events, what does everone else do?

The venue and event is Wimbledon Tennis Open in the UK.

Check with the organisers for clarification. I'm sure that part of the conditions of entry will be that you agree to the terms and conditions of the event either displayed or referred to on tickets or when the tickets are purchased.

As per the website

"Can I bring my camera to Wimbledon?
Photographs (still or motion) taken inside the grounds may only be used for private, not commercial, purposes. There is no flash photography while play is in progress - cameras with automatic flashes should not be used unless the flash can be switched off. Video recording is permitted so long as it does not interfere with competitors or anyone else. It may only be used for private, not commercial, purposes. "

That pretty much sums it up that you can't sell anything. I would suggest you contact the organizers and get approved/accredited for the event if this is something that you really want to do.

Thanks for all replies unfortunately accredited press passes are not available anymore. And I doubt an amateur like myself would have got anywhere near such a big event. Disappointing as I live 5 minutes from this venue!

Cheers

I would still go and get great photos and just use them for your portfolio

True I will do that, my friend is working there, so hopefully sneaking in the back door!
