According to these lens reviews http://www.photozone.de/

... it's 'average'

try http://www.google.de/search?hl=de&ie=UTF-8&q=Sigma+135-400mm+F4.5-5.6+review&btnG=Suche&meta=

Hope that helps.

Maybe you have a question that's a little more precise, e.g.
- is it sharp?
- is it good value-for-money, if I buy it for $ XXX?
- HOW sharp is it compared to lens YYY?
- I'd like to use it for ZZZ, will it work? What other lenses would be good for ZZZ, for a budget of $ XXX?

Best regards,
Andy

..IMHO.. not one of Sigma's better lenses...

Look to the 100-300mm f/4 or even the 50-500mm for a much better build qaulity and much MUCH better AF performance...

The 100-300mm f/4 with a 1.4X T-con will offer 140-420mm @ f/5.6 with faster AF... and better image quality to boot...

Excuse my ignorance but people say that the TC only works with the L lenses. With any other the AF doesn't function, is that correct.

Thanks

The EOS 10D (or Rebel) can autofocus with lenses up to f/5.6 as fastest aperture.

If you have a 135-400 f/4.5-5.6, the 1.4 TCON adds about an f/stop ... making the lens too slow on the 400 end ... the 10D will recognize that and cease to autofocus, unless you are lucky taping some of the contacts of the lens (do a board search).

The 100-300 has a constant f/4 aperture, so you are well within the f/5.6 limit, and the lens will autofocus. Most of the L lenses have a fastest aperture of 2.8 or 4, so they will work with the TCon.

The x2 TCon will only work on lenses with a constant f/2.8.

On the EOS 1D or 1Ds, the camera has a different autofocus, so it also permits to use AF at lens combos with slower apertures.

Best regards,
Andy

Thanks Andy for the explanation. Sigma also has a compatibility chart, which is found here:

Thanks again

I just realized I did not specifiy that the 100-300 f/4 I was referring to is a Sigma.. this may have created some confusion :?

The Sigma is not your typical 100-300mm it's sort of in a class by itself.. much better build quality and optics than any 70-300, 75-300, or 100-300mm made by anyone else.. really nice glass.

P.S. The Sigma will work with either Sigma or Canon brand T-cons if you allready have a Canon.

Is this a good lens ( Sigma 135-400mm F4.5-5.6 APO Aspherical Lens) with the rebel xt? I am new here and wanted to get a lens that will work with my camera. I was looking at this lens on the net and found this site so I signed up to get some info.
