From June 13-17, California Speedway in Fontana, CA held the annual 2007 Formula SAE competition. If you are not familiar with Formula SAE, I'll give you a little information. Teams based at universities from around the world build formula style race cars that have engines limited at 600cc, have 20mm intake restrictors and have many other regulations. I was a part of the Washington State University Formula SAE team this year, and flew down to California last Tuesday to compete, and also capture some of the events. Here are some shots from some of the trip.

Above is the tilt table for technical inspection. They load the car on, and tilt it to 45 degrees to make sure there are no engine fluid leaks. They then tilt to 60 degrees to make sure the outside tires don't come up from the platform simulating being able to hold a high G turn without rolling over.

The rest are some action shots, I was able to get 1hr dynamic area media passes for two of the competitions.

Any questions or comments? I'll post more pictures of other teams once I edit them.

Great Pics. These cars are so much fun to build and drive. I was on the SIU team during my tenure there

Very cool, im in the Australasian Formula SAE comp for a Uni down here. Our finals are in December though so the new car is still in construction.

Cool shots, my roommate was one of the lead guys on the team at VT. I always wanted to join the team at our school, but I just can't devote the time required while having a job and other engineering classes. I'm sure it's a blast though. I hope the competition went well for you guys.

They look a little underexposed to me. It may be my monitor. None the less, these are some nice shots.
