Odd image licencing question

I have been approached by a business concern looking to licence images of guitars that are owned by famous rock musicians. They do not want the guitars being played, just the instrument itself.

Does anyone care to weigh in as to if a release would be needed from the owner?

My guess.. is just to be safe.. you'd need a property release signed, by whoever owns the 'property' (guitar).
