View Full Version : What compact has the least shutter lag?

I'm hoping to stay with Canon, but I'm willing to go to the darkside - or really, any manufacturer - to get the shortest shutter lag.
In your experience or knowledge, what P&S has the shortest shutter lag? My SO has a Nikon 8700 now, but there are times when it can take seconds to focus and then trip the shutter. Yes, I've shown her how to half-press and all, but there's sometimes that she's trying to catch something - a highschool sports moment for example - where there's no time for the half-press. I've discussed with her what's most important and shutter lag is her primary concern. Next is zoom or max tele length, but shutter lag is tops.
BTW, I have done some looking around and while there are sites that list the various times (half to full press, full press, etc), there's no comparison tables I've seen pertaining to this specific trait.
I'd love to get her the new S5 or even the S3, but I'm really hoping someone here will say, "oh, buy the" x! "It's nearly as fast as an SLR!"
Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?

Because there have been several threads on this subject before? Do a search and you'll probably see all your questions answered already.

you aren't the only one who couldn't find them and I've been here a while...
Teekay, it's against forum rules to tell people to do a search. If you have the info please provide the link.
OP, the S3IS has the shortest shutter lag that I know of personally. There may be others but of the ones I've used, it's the quickest.

I searched the Small Compact Digitals by Canon forum for the term "lag" and got this: http://photography-on-the.net/forum/search.php?searchid=2725955
I hope this helps.

Sorry, I didn't know that rule and was only trying to be helpful, not rude, since a quick search in this forum for "shortest shutter lag" immediately turned up a number of threads on the subject. I thought I would try to save people from having to repeat or read what had been said before.
That having been said, I don't think it's a bad idea once in a while to be reminded how useful the search feature is on these forums. I have often found information right away that has saved me starting another thread on something that has already fully covered earlier.

I registered and read the rules a long time ago, but clearly forgot this one, so I again apologize for my memory lapse while just trying to help
