BG-E2 for D Reb 300d?

Will a BG-E2 fit on the 6.3 mp 300D?

No, the 300D takes the BG-E1

Nope. E2's for the 20D/30D only. If it worked on the 300D they wouldn't have made the BG-E2, but would have stuck with the BG-E1.

So what replaces the E-1?

You'll have to find a BG-E1, probably used nowadays. There's no substitute.
If the form of the BG-E2 had been such that it'd fit the 300D, the BG-E1 would conversely have fit the 20D and there would have been no need for a BG-E2 grip.
