lovely.
as for sound, here's some: http://joebloggs.servebeer.com/sound.wav
we just somehow need to embed the .wav file into the .jpg

Great picture. The Spitfire looks like new. Its age would have to be 55+

Nice one! Is that paint a naval version?

I think that it's high altitude camo from the end of the war... the Mk 19 is, I think, a recce version.

Yep, thats spot on. The give away, apart from the colour scheme is the lack of guns and cannon on the wings.

Your description isn't exactly accurate... The Spitfire was built by Supermarine. Rolls Royce only built the engine, in the case of the Mk XIX, a Griffon.

A very nice capture of 'the' warbird.

I have found there was a long line improvements & variants and though I have not had time to read all the page here http://www.bbmf.co.uk/fighters.html it does seem to cover the those in the bbmf. Google throws up a range of other sources such as the MkXIX used by the Swedish airforce http://ipmsstockholm.org/magazine/1998/08/stuff_eng_detail_spit19.htm

While your are correct on the Spitfire being built by Supermarine Paul G's description is also correct as this particular aircraft is owned by Rolls Royce. The following link gives some history of the aircraft.

A great shot of arguably the prettiest military aircraft ever....

It's really hard to look at that plane and realize it's roughly the same age as I am. I sure wish I was holding up as well.:(;)

Thanks for the link. Gives a good insight into the plane.

I guess I should have said 'owned by Rolls Royce' in the first place to avoid confusion

Thanks very much for the comments.

Love this little fighter and you capture is fitting too.

Is that a photo recon version with that little port hole behind the pilot?

---Goes away and looks at a "Spitfire - A complete fighting hoistory"---

Just answered my own question before finishing the reply...

Yes it is, found a very similar picture and it's a single oblique camera looking to port behind the cockpit as shown in your image paul_g

Regards
Andrew

Edit: already spotted as photo rec in thread sorry!

I have always loved the sound of the Spitfire, even though the Hurricane was also a formidable plane, I think the Spitfire was one of the best for it's day but I love the sound of the Messerschmitt ME 109 also
