Leave the Battery in the Mark II

I see nothing in the Mark II documentation indicating that the battery will draw down if left in the camera (like the D30/D60/10D). Has anyone had this happen, or can the battery be left in? Thanks.

Most of us have only had it for a week or two so it's too soon to tell. You're right though, there's nothing in the manual about it so I think it's okay. Speaking of the battery...I can't believe how long it lasts. I'm starting to wonder why I bought a backup.

I have always left batteries in my 10D and D60 with no draw-down whatsoever. I will leave a battery in the MKII also and expect the same; No draw-down.

I used my mkII for the first time this weekend. I've been using the display a great deal this weekend to change settings and check photo.

I'm extremely pleased so far after taking a variety of photos including flash shots. The AF is just AMAZING and the flash photography is a BIG improvement! :shock: ... and the battery... well the indicator hasn't budged yet.
I can't wait to show it to my Nikon friends! They all want to know if there is anyone they can contact at Canon that will talk to them about trading their professional equipment for Canon's and a mkII.

Seriously... Anyone have any contacts?

Speaking of the battery...I can't believe how long it lasts. I'm starting to wonder why I bought a backup.

I've been wondering about that, too, since I never can imagine shooting 1200 frames without having a chance to recharge. Still, a backup is always a good thing. There could always be a malfunction of the one that you have; that's the nature of electronic things.

I experienced dead batteries in my D-60 with BG-ED after not using it at all after my MKII came in. Picked it up and it was dead..both bats.
Before using it as a back-up, it was always getting used...daily.

I believe that we've discussed the possible reason for that within the last month. Hint: my D60 by itself has no such problem.

I always popped my batteries out of my 10D since I don't use the camera every day. I found my batteries dead in the camera after I didn't use the camera for about two weeks. I plan to pop the mkII battery out if I don't plan to use the camera for a week just in case. Easy insurance! :roll:

Since i bought my camera (300D) in December of '03, i dont think i've gone more then 5 days without picking it up...i've never noticed this problme :twisted:

Yeah.. the BigEd seems to make the batts drain faster... but I too have allways left batteries in the camera..

I have always left them in. No problem. Not sure yet how to use up the MK II Battery. Thing last forever. I numbered them just to make sure I rotate regularly. I probably do not need a backup.....Yes I do, just need to shoot more.
