How come, I have a harder time parting with my trusted computer, than any girlfriend I've dumped? When breaking up with a girlfriend (in the few rare cases where they didn't manage to beat me to it :? ) they usually cry a little, but both them and I turn out quite OK after a short while. But now selling my computer.. That's something completely different I must say
Although I hadn't had the hart to break the news to him yet, I know he already knows from the lame activity the last days. Just backup up data to a loaned USB-disk. And of course, I've written all the sales-announcements to usenet and auction-sites from him, so he have to know..
I just returned to him now (01:00am local time), and had forgot to turn off the music. Now he stands picking out all the sadest songs in his collection by random.. "Scorpions - Lonely nights".. Hell, how many lonely nights haven't the two of us spent together? :)
Think the delivery of the computer will happen tomorrow. I feel guilty for ditching him. Much more guilty than I've been over ditching a girl. I must be a freak
I just love him so much  Ok, really, I must be a freak

I have been out quite a lot the last days actually, since me and some other 10 friends usually play "H4xxb411" every day now that the weather is so good =D H4xxb411 is a sport we soon hope to get into the Olympic Games.. Couldn't get it approved for Athen but just wait! ;) It's a ballgame, and it can be played with different "modifications". Usually we play it with the "volleyball mod", but sometimes we freak out and try the soccer, basketball or bowling mods ;)
Nothing differs it from the regular volley/basketball/soccer/bowling, except that we're all geeks playing,Â*and all forms for cheat usually is allowed, and stylepoints are recieved for geekish clothing, non-sportish behaviour, non-fair-play and good geek-comments.
So I can't exactly say I don't get ou..... Oh, I see where you're going.. You mean I shoud socialize with _NON_-geek people? Sorry mate, no can do.. Really, I've tried :P I manage to get along with non-geek girls, but I have a hard time beeing around non-geek boys for too long. No offence to the non-geeks, but most non-geek boys I know don't find anything to talk about except girls, cars, soccer and alcohol. And indeed, I like all of them, but I don't manage talking about it for 12 hours straight.. Sorry, got to work on that :-P

YOUR SELLING YOUR OLD PC??
Well, I guess I'm more of a freak than you are. I have never sold any of my old PC's. I can't bring myself to do it.

I've never sold any before until now either :/ But now I'm selling _ALL_ three of them =D Only leaving my PDA left. But of course, the money I get from my workstation (and two other old, slow, cheap servers) will be put into a new laptop  But I still feel like I'm cheating on my workstation :P It's like telling a girl you dump her for a "younger and better model" ;)

Me neither! I threw a few out, but I *still* have a 486/25 with 12 Megs of RAM. It runs Windows 3.1 just *fine*
A couple weeks ago I did some cleaning up of my old computer parts. I still might have a use for a 120 meg drive, or a 2400-baud modem, so I saved them. Needless to say, I didn't do much cleaning up.

Heh, my oldest at this moment is a Pentium-75MHz, running OpenBSD, acting as a NAT-router/firewall for the broadband-connection of this family and the neighboors next door. I even used to run the mailserver for one of my domains on it, but have now moved that onto a dedicated mailserver hosting all my domains (and others).
Anyway, it got to go, I promised the buyer of my workstation he would get network-cards in that computer along with my workstation. But I'm trading all this stuff away for the opportunity to sit out in the sun, drinking beer, and posting drunken posts here ;) In the end, I think it all might be worth it =D

I salvage usable parts and then take my old computers out and shoot them (literally). I once made an old computer into a birds nest inadvertantly when I left it in my garage and some birds flew in and made a nest in it (the power supply was taken out, so there was a hole). I took that computer with nest and babies and stuck it on a tree in my backyard and the birds lived there for a while.
If the computer is reasonable...still can run most mainstream apps, I clean it out and donate it to a local charity.

If you do sell your old computer, make sure you REFORMAT your old hard
drive and reinstall the OS. This will ensure that all your old data is not
recoverable by anyone else.
Also, if you dispose of the computer, you should also reformat the drive
or just destroy it to protect your privacy. There is always something on
the drive you wouldn't want someone to see.

I'm a freak too, I have like 13 systems here , only 5 of them are really being used though. Be sure to use a low level format (but even then there are ways to recover it), so if you really got classified stuff on your drive the best thing is to use a datashredder or use this for a while
