Just caught him before he flew away. He was on our rain gauge looking for some insects I suspect. I have seen them around lately must be gourmet food here.;)
I used my 75-300mm twin kit lens 100 ISO f5 1/500sec focal 210mm.Manual

Very nice shot Peter. A bird I'll never get to see. Do they make any noise?

They sure do, they laugh!..It is an awesome sound. I love listening to the young ones learning to "laugh" they can take a bit to get going..Kookaburras would have to be one of my all time favourite birds, however I was recently told that they kill the little blue wrens and scarlet robins :( (both of which we have here)..
Fantastic pic! whenever I have had my camera the kookaburras are usually up the tallest tree. I often see them on fences and posts whilst driving in my car!!...one day I will learn to take my camera with me everywhere :)

Yes they do make a noise Mitch.I don't know if you have heard that they are
called The laughing 'Jackass'. They actually laugh out loud. Listen here

They only do when they are in 'song' you could say, not any other time.
Thanks for the replies.

Thanks Witchy, that worked. And I have heard them, primarily in every old Tarzan movie I've ever seen. :D
