Macro?

I don't know much about "Macro" except it is used to magnify small objects. I have a sigma 70-300mm APO DG Macro lens with a macro switch. What happens when I switch to macro. In other words what does the lens do to go into macro mode and how does it work?

It meerly lets you focus (stand) a little closer. Not real macro. Have you started reading threads over in the Macro section?
