Took my kiddos swimming at a friends place the other day and she has 4 little ones that were swimming as well. After we ate some lunch the 4 year old thought he had his swim vest on when he decided to jump into the deeper end. Me, acting on instinct, jumped in and brought him back up paying no attention to that little bulge in my pocket. It was my cell:evil: . Went to the Sprint store yesterday and it was rediculous the price she gave me for her cheapest phone. Apparently I used up all my reward points when I got the non-water resistant phone 3 months ago. So now I'm looking for a new cell. Anyone? BTW the little fellow was fine. A little spooked but okay.

I'm a sonyercisson girl myself. I love my gadgets so I've given a lot of different brands a go and I always come back to sony ericsson. This is my phone (http://www.sonyericsson.com/spg.jsp?cc=au&lc=en&ver=4000&template=pip1&zone=pp&pid=10527) but it really depends why you're looking for in a phone.

Mine was reasonably priced and I'd wanted a clamshell phone for a long time but SE didn't really have one, and then they realesed it and well.....that was it, I had to have it. Nokia is pretty good as well, very user friendly, and to me, other brands can't really compete. Unless you want a PDA and that's another story......

Strange answer from some.

Remove battery and leave off the phone. Disassemble phone and layout to dry. Reassemble phone and test for operation. At this point it cost you nothing. So it might be worth a try.

EBay might have unlock phones that might be worth looking at. Then there are those who do constant upgrades and sell off old phones.

Well i had planned on disassembling the phone and letting it dry but the screws holding it together are not philips or standard. You need a screw driver with a special head to take it apart. Had been looking at the Treo 650 but don't know if I really want all those extra features.

You can get a set of these cheap in Maplin or similar shops.

I suspect that immersion in chlorinated water (I assume it was) has caused something to 'pop' or short but give it a go, you never know.

Something that worked for me to make sure it was dry when I had my Motorola fall into a sink once.
I took the battery out, and put both the body and battery on the hood of a dark car in the sun for the afternoon. It sure warmed it up, and the next day when I put it back together it worked.

I use a Sony Ericsson p990i (http://www.sonyericsson.com/spg.jsp?cc=global&lc=en&ver=4001&template=pp1_1_1&zone=pp&lm=pp1&pid=10336)

But now i would not recommend it, Sony ericsson have just released its final Firmware for the phone, it has massive problems!

Read the below quote

I got the new Blackberry 8300 AKA curve the other week and I love it. Get a 2 gig microSD card and you can store a few movies, photos and music on it. I t has a 2 mp camera but sadly no video recording. GPS is avail if you hook it up to an external GPS receiver via Bluetooth. Mine came free with the O2 plan and I get unlimited email web browsing etc.

Can you make phone calls on that! :-)

I remember when the ability to send a text message was a 'feature' on a phone:rolleyes:

Sigh!!!

I remember all too well when the only thing you could do with a phone was make calls.

Our first phone (in So. California) had no dial. You picked it up and an operator came on the lime and would place the call for you. This was a PBX system. The last PBX system in the U.S. was in Avalon on Catalina Island, off the coast from LA. It shut down in the late seventies (if I remember rightly).

No handset protection?

If you can wait till Friday.....http://www.apple.com/iphone/gallery/

Man I want one of these so bad, I'm trying to justify the cost of the phone though, I may have to sell my 30G to make some cash back!

My ericsson had screws that looked like standard flat head screws but which had a dimple in the middle of the slot. I filed a notch in a cheap screwdriver to make it fit.

The Nokia smart phones are excellent if you want a really functional phone, but I think most Nokia or Sony Erickson phones would work well.

I've had a 650 for the last couple of years. For me it replaced a phone & PDA. I like it OK. Most of my complaints are with the Palm system. I have Sprint with Internet for $15/month. Can't beat that.
Otherwise I think it's a bit pricy for just a phone.

The best phone I ever had was a Siemens C25. It was basic. It was bad for texting but the software never ever crashed. My Siemens A50s crashed occasionally. My Erricsons (A1018, T10, T15) were always doing something strange. My Alcatel was excellent too. Currently I use a Nokia - not sure which model. No problems at all. My wife has the version with a camera and it's ghastly. It needs to have the battery pulled out and replaced every 2 weeks or it won't find a signal!

WEll the search continues. Currently looking at phones on ebay. I may try some of the tips mentioned, what do I have to loose. Those iphones sure are nice but can justify spending that much green for one.

Sounds like you could use a new phone company as well. If you're not under contract, or if your contract will soon expire, consider switching to AT&T, Verizon, or another carrier. Most will give you a free or cheap phone for just signing up.

If you like your Sprint service, get an offer from a competitor anyway and bring that back to Sprint. Threatening to leave may bring out some better bargains.

I got the Blackberry 8800 last week and love it as well. Besides,.. when you have a BB you don't need SMS since it has PIN to communicate with other BB users. Very cool feature that works like a instant email rather than SMS. Difference is that since I'm on an unlimited data plan I don't need to send that many text messages.
