Not sure which forum this pic is best posted in, so I thought I would play it safe and put it here. :) This is my first serious attempt at B&W work. I'm not convinced about the artistic merit of this shot, so all comments/criticism welcomed! :)

This is the base of one of the Gate House towers of Stirling Castle in Scotland.

Shot on 350D w/18-55mm kit lense @ 27mm, ISO 200 1/100 sec f8.

Thanks for looking.

Nice, I love that type of pic.

Thanks for commenting Bob, I wasn't sure if I had hit the mark with the B&W side of things, so I appreciate the feedback!

cool shot!

Cheers Willy, kind of you to say so!

I'm gonna put my two cents in. I think you did a very good job of holding detail in highlights and shadows. Anyway looks good on my monitor. There are also a couple of very interesting things going on aesthetically. I like the strong diagonal shadow and the repeating pattern of the bricks and the nice contrasting curve shape. I'm in agreement with the other comments nice image. Works very well as a B&W. Even more impressed that this was a very early attempt at B&W.

Thanks for the encouraging comments airfrogusmc! I'm trying to do more of visualising what I want an image to look like when I'm shooting it (something I've never been good at!). This shot was one such occasion where the end result matched pretty much what I had visualised at the time.

I'm really pleased to hear that the image holds some interesting asthetics for you!
