I received the battery grip today. WOW!!! I have no idea why I waited 3 month to get it. One should order it together with the camera! :) Now the camera feels like $1,000 ;)
More good news, I have no more space in my camera bag ;) Time for a new bag again? ;) I wonder how often people change the bags here and what do you do with old bags?

I'm thinking about the grip, but I just bought the camera kit, the 50/1.8 II, a couple of UV filters, some memory, and, of course, a new bag...
I don't know what it is, but I'm glad I'm not alone... I seem to have some kind of bag fetish... my poor wife just rolls her eyes. I had to explain to her that my LowePro Mini Trekker was great for carrying around my old Maxxum, three lenses, and my G1, but since I'm starting over with Canon, I really need a smaller bag to carry around just the camera and spare lens...
FWIW, I got the Adorama Slinger. I've heard great things about it and it seems the perfect size!

I've used a Domke bag for the last 18 years. First thing I did was remove the bright red Domke label. No need to advertise what's in the bag... Anyways, the bag has one of those angled postal carriers padded shoulder pads and it does the trick of actually staying put on your shoulder. Very thick canvas with no signs of wear.

I know what you mean. The battery grip was part of the package when I got my 10D. When the rare occasion does occur that I have the grip off, it feels naked  I feel like I took off it's pants
Plus, I like the way people react when looking at the camera with the grip on. They always think I'm a professional :P

I want to get the grip for my Rebel. But my mom's car needed repairs. So now she is driving around on my battery grip and flash. But hey, how can you say no to mom.
As for bags, when I got my rebel I looked at bags. Alot of bags. But none of them were really me. Then one day I was at Wolf and saw the solution (http://www.wolfcamera.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10101&catalogId=10001&langI d=-1&productId=30110) to my pickieness and also to my clutzy-ness.
I love this hard case. It has one of those "dice" cut foam inserts so every piece has it's own little nappy-time spot. And everything is snug, so no rattling or stuff knocking about. It won't stop a bullet, but it did stop a stray football from hitting me one time at the park. Plus it is rather stylish.
The bad side is that right after I got my rebel I was trying to sneak up onto the very top of a parking structure and someone saw me (with my tripod in a shoulder bag) and told security there was someone on the roof with a bomb or a rifle or something. People are so paranoid.
But hey, no bag/case is perfect.

I got the Digital Rebel grip for about $100, and later picked up the hand strap. The combo is a killer, once you figure out how to attach the hand strap. There are no instructions included with the strap, grip or camera. The best set of instructions for the strap are in the EOS 1Ds manual, which you can download from the Canon site.

the instructions that come with the grip have something on how to attach the strap.

and if you put a big lens WITH the lens hood, they think you are a famous photographer ;) I have to try that for street photos. Too often people say no, when I ask if I can take their pictures. Let's see how they react to the grip and the lens hood ;)

tpinchback, try the Sabine St. bridge, which is just northwest of downtown. On a day with low humidity (I know, they're rare...) you can get some outstanding shots of the downtown skyline. Go about 45 minutes before sundown.
There's a pedestrian bridge a few hundred yards from here that goes over Allen parkway. After dark, you can get some fabulous shots of cars(lights, etc) on Allen Parkway.
Try these locales, you'll like 'em.

I agree... the camera feels SO MUCH better with the battery grip on it! Especially when using a big lens!
