Well, we had a nest, and 4 eggs. Mom danced for me, and then I saw the post-egg little buggers.

She might have been just camera shy.

Nice set. It's good to see so many Killdeer coming back. :)

Thanks. I wish I had a TC though. They are shy, and run away quickly; especially the young ones. And they are so small it's tough to get a good shot of them.

No edits, or cropping on them either.

Terrific shots! These guys are hard to find, the eggs are impossible to find they are so camoflaged on the ground! Cute little one there.

We moved into our house last year and have not finished the yard yet. The area we are in has lots of these Killdeer around. I just happened to be cutting down weeds and saw Mom or Dad doing the dance and figured there had to be some reason she was hanging around. I looked down, and I was 6-8 inches away from scrammbled eggs with my last pass with the mower. Here's what I saw:

Great set of one of my favorite 'shorebirds'. How lucky to have them nest on your property. I love the broken wing dance and the babies are so cute. The eggs are very pretty too.

How did I do on exposure? I know FL is a bit short, but they kept running away and I haven't bought a TC yet. I looked at the other killdeer posts, and I'm quite a bit short compared to other posts.
