I have been wanting a new lens for a while now, but monetary reasons prohibit me from getting what I want. (nice and shiny 2.8L glass)

In the mean time before I strike gold (or oil, I don't care. ) has anyone had any experience with either of these two lenses? (good or bad please)

and

They both seem to give me what I will be using them for, faster for indoor family shots and a little better reach for the outdoor shots.

TIA for any wisdom you part with.

I did see these lenses in my travels, but, I have the stock 18-55 3.5/5.6 and I find that the 3.5 is limiting in some situations, hence the 2.8 on the above lenses. I was really wanting the EF 24-70 2.8 and then the 70-200 2.8 lenses, but unless I have the winning lotto ticket for this Saturday, that's not going to happen for a few years. :D

Have you looked at the Tamron 28-75/2.8 XR DI?

It'S supposed to deliver the same sharpness as the 24-70L and is a constant f/2.8 for about 300$.

Best regards,
Andy

I would definitely have a look at the Tamron that Andy mentions as I've heard good reports on it. I have the Sigma 28-70 f2.8 and am very happy with it, new it runs about $300 USD.

Thanks guys, that was what I was looking for.

I think I'm going to get one of the 24-70 2.8's. If YOU were going to pick between the Sigma and the Tamron for yourselves, what one would you get? I'm thinking Sigma, but your opinions are appreciated.

Thanks,
Kelly

hi Newdamage1,
from all the reviews and tests i've seen, the Tamron is quite superior to
the Sigma.
