View Full Version : New Canon USA Web Site - 2nd test...

I was doing my usual daily surfing to my favorite sites and it appears that Canon USA has reformatted all of their Web sites to a new format. At first I could not get to canoneos.com, but after several tries it came up, although it is loading very slowly. On the EOS page, it looks like they are making room for more than 4 DSLRs. It seems like powershot.com is also part of this. 8)

I can understand how deploying several new Web sites may take a while, so if you try it and it won't load, check back.

Have Fun,

- Edit -

By 6:00 PM EDT, the sites were back to the prior version - perhaps this was a test, or perhaps the deployment didn't go as planned. In any case, be on the lookout for a new site design from Canon USA. :D

10:34 pm Central Daylight Savings Time. Same old one. You got me intrigued though. Hope they don't come out with any new, must have toys so soon after the Mark II.

Ummm.............I saw the new site. Sadly, no new products were introduced.

Oh well.........a site is a site...........doesn't really matter how it looks.

Ro1, I agree, but frankly, I was initially underwhelmed by the site - it was less dramatic than the current one, and did not appear to have the 'Flash'y graphics. But it appears that Canon is coordinating the look of all their sites - EOS, P&S, printers, binoculars, etc. and a new look may be what they are after. As long as they pesent the info (features, specs, etc), that is what matters. It does seem that they are concentrating a little more on accessories, as they had icons for discontinued models like the D60 on the accessories page.

The biggest thing I noticed (maybe being a little optimistic) was that the DSLRs were on one level and the film SLRs were on another, and there was room for 6 models on each level. It is a given that all the manufacturers are switching the main focus (pun partially intended) to digital, but is it possible there will be more than 4 Canon DSLRs by Photokina?

Have Fun,

You know I was thinking that. They definitely had that 4 blank spaces on the "DIGITAL SLR" row as opposed to thier film counterparts.

Agree with the lack of "flashiness". They made it look generic. Clicking on a camera doesn't open up a new window. Lenses were browsed using click down menus. I guess they tried to simplify the whole page.

In any case...........that 4 blank spaces needs to be filled!!! It looks out of balance. :-)

The new Web site format is back today, and it loads a lot faster than the first time it was up. Don't know if this is permanent or another test. Still no sign of new products.

Check it out.

This time it looks like another live test - some of the links are not fully fleshed out, and some don't work at all.

I would think this should be tested in-house before setting it loose on the Internet, but I guess Canon thinks differently. :?

Have Fun,
