These may be an extreme but at the least you can see how "extreme" I have gone and then tone it down :-)
I would crop it for composition, add a curves adjustment for more colour and then burn in the shadows to give more depth. Dodge the eyes (highlight on the dodge tool) to lighten them. HSL reduction on the yellows/reds for the teeth and white lightening to bring them out more :-)

BUT, why not try a hi-key B&W effect also. YES, it blows it out but it is just an idea ;-) Slate me if you like, or make your own edit :-) A normal B&W just looks boring to me :-)

My 2 cents...the composition doesn't work for me. With the extreme close-up and the water in the background, she looks much larger than life. Almost like a very large person is bending down to get into the shot. I would have backup a few feet and not shot at such an angle.

I agree but I cant decide if that makes it kinda cute or not.
I go between liking it and not liking it.

needs some clean up color wise but I like this 8x10 crop.
makes for a fun shot.

Am I spoiled with my 17-55 or does it look soft to anyone else?

It could really use some sharpening. The crop is different, not bad but I think there are better ways to do it. The white balance seems kinda warm as well. But I'm color blind so who knows haha.

Yes, this shot was right out of the camera, I think:confused: It was taken late in the day, so if I remember that will result in a warm tone. Is it personal preference as to changing the color balance or should you leave it alone?
What sharpening settings would work with this? Any ideas?
Thanks for your replies..

I certainly agree that this looks a bit on the soft side.

Yes it might be, but as I said it was right out of the camera, no PP. How could I have made it sharper when taking?

The original is the best and a very good effort.
