Here's a few shots from Saturday's racing at Southsea. Met a fellow POTN member there - boggy. Unfortunately I didn't have 600mm of reach but I did have my 70-200 f4 L with me!

The weather was nice to start with but within 2 hours the black clouds and rain moved in so I headed home.

1. A boat waiting for its next race, the visor showing it was nice weather early on!

2. Preparing to do battle..

3. Close racing on the first lap.

4. I thought I'd try a panning shot, it's not bad for a first attempt. (yes I forgot to clean my lens before shooting  )

5. A bit of the racing (need to straighten the horizon)

6. My favourite shot, doesn't take much to get these things in the air!

Great shots. #6 is my favourite too.
Shame it clashed with Goodwood otherwise I could have come along.

Was nice to met you burge, shame the weather turned. Late on it got choppy and the sun came back out.
Like #1 good capture that, well seen. Nice portrait aswell.
For me, in the pan shot, the boat needs to be sharper for it to work. just my opinion.
Is the last one a big crop ;)

OK, from the beach after the rain. Explains the horizon, waterlogged one side ha ha

Lucky for me, one not from the beach if you know what I mean.

Think burge is looking at longer glass, any info for sports on canon 100-400, sigma (of the same ish?) or 300 f4 then please let him know, or post away.
Cheers

Those are some great shots! I love the ones where they are completely out of the water.

Ye your right about the zapcat needing to be sharper - I just need to practice some more, it was the best of a bad bunch! And yes the last one was quite heavily croppd! The protrait would have been better without the hotspot on the helmet and the background not so blown out.

Needless to say but I really like your shots and I'm jealous you got out on the rib to be that close!

I've been thinking about the lens situation and theres now way I could afford the 300 2.8 so at the moment the plan is to save for the 300 f4 plus 1.4tc. After reading some reviews I think the only negative compared to the other two is the flexibility of having a zoom. Still open to suggestions though!

Hey guys, I wish I had spotted you but I was concentrating so hard on keeping my camera dry I didnt see any other glass around. Here are my favs from that day. I was there during the worst of the rain so didnt get many keepers.

Were you there on Sunday? Do you have any of the start/safety boat as that's where I spent the practice and most of the heats.

If I was chimping then guilty, don't remember chimping on the boat. What I was more than likely doing was replacing the eye piece from the sports shield as when we followed the racers up from the start I kept knocking it off!

Nice shots, shame it was dark and wet!

Cheers for posting,

Shaun
