Next month is the annual EAA Air Venture Show over in Oshkosh. For those of you that aren't familiar, it's one of the biggest air shows in the nation with all kinds of antique planes and general aviation revelerie. Every July over 800,000 turkey, erm tourists, descend upon our northernly haven to oogle planes. Canon has a team and booth set up there. My photography professor is working some kind of deal with Canon or EAA for our class to get in to shoot for free. I'm very excited about it. Anyone else from the forum planning on making the trip up for it? I'd love to meet some folks from this site while I'm there, and we could all oogle the Canon booth and equipment together. ;) Would love to hear from you!

Dang- this is not on my radar. I should try to get up there; it's not far from my sister wither.

I'll be there all week. I'd love to meet some POTN folks in-person.

Also, there will likely be a large contingent of folks from avaiation photography site FenceCheck (http://www.fencecheck.com/forums/index.php/topic,7182.0.html) meeting there, too. Maybe we could all get together.

Here are some of my shots from last year. (http://www.geoff-s.net/mtp-gallery/thumbnails.php?album=42)

Geoff, those are some superb shots. I didn't make it down last year, but was alright with that because from my backyard I can watch all of the planes go by from the airshow. I can't remember the plane for the life of me right now, but a really unique old WWII plane on it's last flight before retirement flew right over my house. Just awesome. I hope more people chime in before the show, I too would like to meet some POTNer's in the flesh. :)

Thanks for the compliment! I had good luck at AirVenture last year.

I live near an airport just over an hour away from Oshkosh, and we regularly get all kinds of strange aircraft stopping over late in July. It's not uncommon to have a B-17 or even Burt Rutan's SpaceShip-One stop over at MSN before making a short hop up to OSH.

We'll have to talk some more as the convention gets closer and try and arrange some kind of get-together.

Cheers,

Geoff S.

I'll be attending Friday or Saturday, coming up from Janesville WI. I may also be up on the 22nd to do a couple check flights with my boss on one of the Bell 47's that will be giving aerial tours during the week.

EAA starts Monday July 23rd!
I can only visit on Tuesday and Wednesday. Anyone else going to be there on those days?

Have fun to those that are going. After living in WI for nine years, I never once have been to the show.

I prefer to visit the museum when the crowds and weekend warriors are nowhere in sight. ;)

I'll be there on Wednesday! My photography professor called today. He's got 12 passes for students to get in free, and we're doing this in conjunction with Canon. So they're going to do a workshop with us about shooting airshows, photography in general, etc. And the best part? We get to check out their gear and use it to shoot the show. We're talking everything up to the 600mm, you name it! I'm so freaking excited! :)

If any POTNers want to get together for lunch, dinner, or just to walk around the grounds for awhile, drop me a PM or e-mail.

I should be there most of the week (Sat-to-Sun), so I should have lots of flexibility/free-time (unless my editor finds something he wants photographed...).

Me too; January works well! (http://www.fencecheck.com/forums/index.php/topic,7856.msg124137.html#msg124137)

But, I have to take exception with the "weekend warriors" sentiment. Maybe for some wimps... ;) For many, this is a 9+ day event! I know I'll be there from Saturday through the following Sunday, and some of my friends have already been up there for a couple of days...

Great fun! Hope to see some of you folks up there!

Cheers,

Geoff S.

My dad and I flew there a couple years back (took us 3 days) in our vintage craft.. We ended up going twice. Its a great show, just wish I was into photography back then! We were asked to be in a calandar and actually went on a long photo shoot.
