It all happened pretty quickly over the last 10 days or so. From G2 to 10D in one giant leap (courtesy of the college where I work.... they are springing for the kit for me!! Unbelievable, I know......!)
So today I ordered a 10D, 17-40L and the 28-135IS from B&H. Wow!
I wanted to thank the various members of this forum for the information that has accumulated here. You've answered my direct questions, and through searching through other threads, I've gleaned an awful lot of good advice which helped guide me towards the lens choices I've made.
Isn't the internet wonderful?
I'll be back - once I get the gear and start experimenting.

one more thing... dont be disappointed by the softness of the images... i knew that ahead of time before i got mine in so i already knew how to fix the issue.

i posted this image in another thread somewhere talking about 10d focusin

image is a 100% crop; top is straight from cam, lower is after intellisharpen
http://www.nitrocross.com/temp/dragon.jpg

i used intellisharpen from http://www.fredmiranda.com/software/ $20
it has 14 different levels of sharpening that supposedly doesnt not add noise to the background etc

i used a level 8 on that sample.

Hey, Abel ..... I saw your picture on the other forum - really nice. It's good to see the 'before and after' sharpening. Wow! That's quite a difference! Do you have Photoshop but just prefer the Miranda sharpening?

thanks!!!

i use photoshop CS and i forgot to mention that the Fred Miranda Intellisharpen is a plugin for Photoshop.

i am very pleased with the plugin and for $20, u cant beat it.

i heard that some people bump up the sharpening setting in the camera to +2 but ive heard that results in added noise.. so i did not want try that route right off.

thanks again

Abel: $20 isn't much when I've just dropped $2500+ ( ) but tell me more about Intellisharpen. I looked at the FM site and the samples there. Looks really good but is it just a quick shortcut to do what you could do with USM etc in PS? or is your experience showing you that it is better than anything you can do with PS?

well.. USM effects the entire image. i think, from what i can tell is the plugin does a long list of adjustments to the areas that are in the foreground only. i caught a glimpse of a level layer that flash up on the screen and it seemed to only USM on that area and not the entire image. if u have a untouched image handy, post it and ill run it at different levels, then u can run ur unsharpmask on the same untouched base image and we can compare all of them.

i think that would be intersting to see... for both of us

Abel: tell me..... how do I post an image? If i do it, what size do I post? I'd be interested too to see and compare. I run PS7.

id say 800x600 size may be good enough.

do u have a site or pbase account u can upload pics to? if so all u have to do to post it here is to copy and paste the exact weblink and it will post the image.

if not, u can email it to me at abel@nxracer.com and i can throw it on my web server and post it for ya.
