I was also at Goodwood on Friday for the Festival of Speed and very much enjoyed the better than predicted weather. Slight changes to the spectator areas meant one of last years angles was no longer very suitable but I made do. Not as many keepers as I would have liked but there's always next year I guess.

Very nice Steve, and very nicely presented with the simple border. The shots on your website are also very nice with this one: -

of the rally stage jumping out at me.
That was until I scrolled down and saw this one: -

Now that is a proper rally car, and would be almost worth the entry fee alone to see in action.
Cheers,
Simon.

Nice shots Steve, here and in your gallery. I was disappointed with the lack of decent shooting spots too.
The Aston didn't fare so well on Saturday ...

Thanks very much Simon and Andy.
Simon - I do enjoy the rally stage as it's nice to see some of older, rarer cars in action.
Andy - The Aston driver looked a bit ragged in the shot above but just about corrected it. Only a few hundred yards later he wasn't quite so lucky and put it hard into the bails. We saw it on the big screen and it was one hell of a crash. Not a pretty sight but at least the driver walked away from it.
Thanks for looking,
Steve

You should try some more panning shots, your keeper rate will drop massively at first, but the shots will capture the feel of the event much better.
One of the great things about Goodwood is the fact that most of the cars and bikes are really going for it...
See something like: http://www.fareham.org/p.shtml?2007/gw/fos/crw_6702.jpg

to see what I mean.

Except that both are out of focus ;)
Nice work Steve.

Lovely shots Steve, makes me wish I'd taken a proper camera, how busy was it Friday?

Thanks for the comments guys.
Roger - While I like the odd pan I prefer the 3/4 style shots as you see more of the car. I'm not sure that I agree that pans capture a better feel of the event. You get more blur and sense of movement but pan after pan end's up a bit bland. Also at Goodwood the 100mm end of my Sigma was a bit too long for pans other than a few of the bikes.
Justin - It wasn't quiet but perhaps not as busy as I remember it last year. The paddocks as always were a crush but we visited them at the end of the day and things were a bit quieter, although some of the cars are then under cover. I found it reasonably easy to find a few places to stand to give me an angle to photograph. My main issue was that the ropes marking where you could stand had been moved back a bit and shooting over the hay bails was harder than last year, especially for a short person like me.
Cheers,
Steve
