I have to take a few pictures of some people going to a prom, just for fun, for them.

just a quick ?, views on which would give the better photo, My canon 70-200-f2.8 or 60mm EFS on a 30D, I not had time to really test them both against each other at around 70 mm up and 60mm EFS.
I know using the EFS60mm will be a lot easier, though sometimes that extra zoom in to catch a close up is handy to ,
Shots will be out side in day light, hopefully bright weather, just before they all leave

Thanks

I don't have the 70-200 2.8 but I do have the f4 version. But for me I love using the 60 for portrait work.

But again like you say having that zoom could be hand for some candids

I would use the 70-200 at around 100mm I think.. Although either would be great! I would watch out for harsh shadows if it is the middle of the day, maybe look for a shady spot

bring both:)
IMHO, the 70-200 will be great for candid shots; and the 60 is super sharp and works out perfect for portraits.

heh I knew someone was gonna say bring both, but I only got a like 10 min window at most really, you know what kids are like, and it is like 6-30 in evening

Bring the 60 macro. You''re outside and can move fast and where you want. You only have about 10 minutes. The macro is small and light. Get where you want and get the shots. Fire away.

Just my two cents. For what it's worth, I did the same thing last weekend (I own the 60 macro, but used the 85 1.8 as it was approaching night time).

How fast does the 60mm macro focus. I haven't used it, but other macos I've used were pretty slow to focus. I would perfer the 70-200 f/2.8 or a 24-70 f/2.8 if you have one.

The 60 macro is a mediocre decent focuser, but not as fast as the 85 1.8 (not many are).

You're call. If you are not comfortable having a prime only, put you're mind at ease and take the zoom.

Either will give you outstanding shots.
