I am going to be shooting a friend of mine who wants to model. You know any websites I can read on how to shoot a model. Or can you give me some tips or pointers.

And I have a 70-300, 50mm no zoom, and a 28-80mm lens. Which would be good for portrait shooting?

Thanks again

Your lens will depend on the location of your shoot. All the lenses mentioned would be great for portraits depending on how much space you have. The 50mm is a very popular portrait lens.. but I notice I shoot at the long end of my lens often... so 70-85 might be nice depending on which camera body you have.

nope... use the 50mm! Prime lenses are the key to great sharp pics! A good lense to use is the 85mm... if i have to go any lower than that i would use nothing less than a 50mm!

just make sure you keep the horizon straight, dont cut off any fingers... try not to have too many dead space... and you should do pretty decent. show us the pics for cc

I like long zooms myself for portraits. but it tends to keep you at quite a distance from your subject. don't shoot out in direct sun if you're going outside. wait for a cloudy day maybe. or at least find some shade and use some fill flash. good luck and have fun!

I'd use the 28-80mm lens for the shoot. That way you have a decent zoom range, and a wide enough (28mm) length to get the shots if space is limited :)

If it is outdoors, then I'd actually switch between the 28-80mm and the 50mm ;)

thanks any other advice like flashing? I only have the flash that came with the Rebel XT. Should I use that even in daylight?
