I'm new here and have not yet chosen a hosting site. This is where I need your advice. The four that keep popping up are smugmug, pbase, flickr and photobucket. I want one that doesn't charge a fee. What are your good and bad experiences with these or do you have a favorite that I havent listed?:)

For a lot of my hosting, I use www.imageshack.us. It's free, unlimited photos and they provide the code for multiple formats. For grouping my stuff so people can see "me" I use flickr.

While Pbase isn't free it is quite cheap, only $23 for a year for 400 MB of storage. Well worth it IMO.

You get what you pay (or don't pay!) for! Even a smugmug standard account is unlimited storage.

I would go for one of the pay services, I like smugmug myself and am working on porting picks there as we speak. I used to have Flicker but all the adds annoy the heck out of me. Well worth paying a couple bucks a year.

I use picasaweb and it's been great, no problems and you get 1gb of storage free.

Not much response to my question.Do you think all are adequate? Are there any to avoid? I think I will get one that has a fee to avoid all the advertising.More comments still welcome.

Well I doubt many of us have used more than one or two. I have used PBase for my own stuff and SmugMug for the POTN Book. Each has its own unique features that I like but in the end I prefer the clean pages of Pbase over the benefits of SmugMug's uploadling and sorting features.

Check out Half-Lime ... the interface is the best I've ever seen, it hosts movies, pictures, you can print right from it, it's fast, and the owner/developer is readily available and responds quickly to enhancement requests. There's a chat board, message forum ... it is quite the system and completely free.

I think most have a free trial so give them a try. I'm very happy with Smug.
