Here are some shots from my recent trip to Tikal. I have been there three times now and still havent seen everything. the place covers 25 square miles, the majority of it has not been excavated as of yet. Here are a few of the shots. They are dark, cant seem to find a happy medium between my home monitor and this one....LOL

No kidding...I spent a number of years there myself growing up. We lived near Quetzaltenago (SP?) in the late 60s to early 70s. What were you doing there?

I went to Tikal in the early 70s (I was about 10 so dont remember a ton) and then again in 90 and then just his year...some serious changes over those years!

Well i did a search for "Guatemala" just out of curiosity and this came up!

Anyways, my family lives down there cause my great grandparents moved to Guatemala from Germany in the 1920's... They actually settled in Quetzaltenango and lived there until the 1970's when they moved to the capital.

So basically my family is of German descent, but living in Guatemala!

Currently my grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins all live in Guatemala city. I was born in California but then moved to Guatemala for my first 10 years of life (1984-1994) Then me and my mom moved to the states where I have lived ever since.
I still go down to Guatemala to visit about 1-2 times a year though... will actually be going down there in a week or so!

HAve you ever been to lake Atitlan? My family has a house there in Panajachel, it is absolutely beutiful, probably my favorite place in the world!

I know for fact the last scene of episode IV when they show the rebels on the moon base, there are a couple of shots of the Tikal temples sticking out of the jungle.

Funny you should mention Lake Atitlan. While my brother and I were walking around Tikal we started reminising about living in Guatemala. About old friends and places and how we would like to go back. I asked him if he remembered a Christmas we spent on a lake in a nice house, where our father read us The Christmas Carol for the first time. He said "sure, lake Atitlan, one of the most beautuiful places I have ever seen! I would LOVE to go back there one day"...that started us planning our next trip....LOL

We spent the holidays in the home of the presbaterian minister, I believe?

Anyway, my oldest sister married a Guatemalan who was of German decent as well, his last name was Giron. There are alot of families of German decent all over CA...alot of blond haired blue eye Central Americans....LOL

My dad worked at a clinic just outsied of San Christobal and my siblings went to an interdenominational english school in Quetzaltenago....

The park closes from 6pm to 6am...sundown to sun up....I did get in early, for a fee, to go on a guilded sunrise tour, but it was a very oggy morning so didnt even get to see the sunrise...all we got was a bitching at from some looser guild named "little Ceaser" cuz we were talking and some people were trying to meditate!..I said, I didnt F*#ING pay for the meditaiton tour, I paid for the sunrise tour...that listed NOTHING ABOUT FREAKING MEDITATING!...didnt go over well and I stopped, cuz I didnt know how many of them it would take to kick my arse, but Iknew how many they were going to use....LOL

Anyway, the jist of that story is DO NOT USE "LITTLE CEASER" AS A TOUR GUILD.....LOL
