Hi everyone,
Just noticed some banding in my high ISO images. It is horizontal, looks like a barcode, and is not present all through the image, only in parts. It's in different parts from image to image.
I am sure it wasn't there before. Any ideas what it could be? Does my D30 have to go back to Canon (it would be a warranty repair)? Has anyone here experienced something like this with their D30/D60?
Just when you think everything’s great, there’s something else to worry about… :(

I never saw that with my D30 but it may mean that there is dirt on your CMOS. I seem to remember a thread in a different forum about having to clean the cmos because dust and other foriegn particles had gotten on it and were causing odd results in high ISO pics. It can be cleaned by locking the mirror up and removing the lense. DON'T touch the CMOS but gentle use a blower and blw it off. This may solve your problem.
Good luck
Denny

I'm not sure if dust would cause this... :(
Here is an example of what I'm talking about. ISO 1600, banding is VERY obvious in the lower 1/3 of the photo.
Ideas? Anyone?

Hi everyone!
Just an update. Apparently this is a well-known "feature" of the D30, and the fix is to not use "continuous" shooting mode. I confirmed this - my banding disappeared when I switched the camera to "single-shot"!
Canon do offer a "fix". Apparently it is some sort of internal shielding from electronic interference from the lens, and they will do this for free, but only when asked. It is not guaranteed to work 100% of the time, but will reduce the banding significantly. I will be contacting Canon in the morning...
It's amazing what you learn on the Internet... :D

Another update for you folks...
Rang Canon today, and of course, they've never heard of the problem locally... the guy got onto Canon Inc, and we are waiting for a response at this stage...
Anyway, I have fulfilled my goal, which was to make Canon aware of the problem, just in case my D30 keels over a month after the warranty expires. I will see what they get back to me with, and if they want me to send it in, I will.
Will keep you informed... :)
