I was asked a while ago if I would take some shots for Louise's Prom night. I hadn't really done portraits before but thought I've got to start somewhere. So here is my first portrait post on here and I'd appreciate some c&c to help me learn for future shoots. The wind was quite high and causes some grief but hey, we can't control the elements.

There were about 100 people out in the street so no pressure!!!!

I think the lighting and the colors look great, so much better than I've been able to get outside, but then outside photography isn't really my strong suite. ;)
However I got to say that I don't particularly care for the "pose", she looks sort of .... stunned? I think I would have prefered a smile or contact with the camera.
Did you get more shots of her? From the looks of the shot you did well other than the pose. Love to see more if you have them. :)

Sue, thanks for your comments. I'm not trying to make excuses but it was about 12c with a cold wind. Anyway, I've attached one shot where she was smiling.

Looks good but I would have liked to have seen her looking at the camera. Maybe just a little post process on the face. Can't tell if the spot on the end of her nose is a pimple or a freckle. If its a pimple then do a healing brush if you have photoshop. There a couple of more on the first I would also try to remove. I wouldn't try and get every freckle but a couple of the more noticable spots would be nice. Also try posing her face into the wind next time if its possible. That might help with the hair a little. Looks good for a first time out.

HUA! 12 C? *shiver* Want some of our 35C plus 57% humidity that we've got today? We've got plenty to spare. LOL
I do prefer the second one, makes for a much pleasing photo to me when she's smiling. I was gonna say dodge the eyes a bit but when I tried I noticed the hair is gonna cause a problem. Like Time Thief suggested next time try posing her more into the wind so you don't have the stay hair. But still lighting and colors look great in both.

Time Thief, its a freckle, she hates it with a passion but she doesn't want me to remove it, go figure ;o)

Sue, 35c will do me nicely, thanks very much. I'll certainly remember the wind tip, cheers.

PUH...LEASE ( ;) ) take some of our warm weather, its just gonna get worst from here on. I'm miserable in the summers here, after living here 7+ years you'd think I would have gotten used to it, but nope. I do wish I could spend the summers in Sweden and return when it cooled down here. LOL

Sue, it could be worse, you could be living in the UK. Now let me think, if I had the choice of USA, Sweden or UK, USA would be top(did exchange program in Pittsburgh for 12 months when I was 17 and been back many times since, then Sweden(never been but always wanted to) and then the UK (crappy weather, new Prime Minister who's an idiot and its cold) ;o)

All the best

LOL...I've only been to the UK once when I was like 10, only got to see London and when you're 10 you don't fully appreciate the things you see. I want to go back, hubby does too but he wants to see his "roots" too tho so maybe one day.
Sweden is nice in the summer but I didn't care for it the rest of the time, and don't want to go back to live there again...it wasn't for me. But vacationing would be nice to do more often, since I moved I've been back 3 times in 7.5 years, not often enough. :(
I do love the US (obviously since I just sent in my application for citizenship yesterday, yikes!!!), I could just do without the hot humid summers we get where we live, we probably live in the worst part of the state in the valley - its like a pot/kettle collection all the hot humid air, it really does get miserable summertime.
I too went thru an exchange program when I was 17, altho I got stuck in MN of all places, can it get more Swedish (heritage wise) than that?! LOL I loved it every minute of it tho, one of the best times of my life.
LMCAO at your UK description, it can't be THAT bad. ;)
