for larger insects - this particularly large Volucella at 1:1 - might have got it all in portrait mode. Definitely dont make the MPE your only macro lens!

hi guys!what lens do you use to do that and how do you do that?please!!

I presume Courierman used his kit lens (£45?) on extension tubes or reversed on another lens. My fly was with the expensive MPE65 lens which is just less hassle for ultra closeups but not worth investing in if you are not going to be doing a lot of macro.

Either way you need to find a bold fly that is not spooked by the approach of your lens which will be within 3" of its face. Preset your lens for the magnification , say 2:1 and then focus by moving the whole camera in and out until eyes are sharp in the viewfinder.
Camera will have an external flash linked via an off shoe adaptor. Aperture will be about f7-9 for best resolution, ISO no higher than 200. You wont get this resolution with natural light in my experience.
