I'm shooting a wedding soon and wanted to know what a good backup lense is to get those close up shots? My lense now is a 18-50mm, it's good but I want some closer shots which lenses are good for that?
Thanks!

Welcome to the forum decades - we'd like to help but need a little bit more info. First, what kind of camera are you using this with, and close do you want to get? Are you talking macro for ringshots, or a good focal length for pleasant head shots?

If you mean a telephoto lens, the Canon 70-200 f/2.8 IS is the best you can get and is what most professional wedding photographers use in that focal range. The f/4 IS version is less expensive but it has the new breed of IS that allows you to hold at very slow shutter speeds.

Ok still getting the hang of using this forum. I'm using a rebel xti, and I'm trying to get close up facial shots.
Thanks

My 70-200 F2.8 IS rarely leaves my hands when I am doing the bridal proep shots and other times of the day that I want to get close, its a great lens for getting tight head shots or just for giving your subject some space. Its a fair wedge of cash of course but if you buy anything else you will always be hankering after upgrading to the 70-200 F2.8IS so if you can afford it then you may as well cut an upgrade out later on and get it straight away/

I agree with the 70-200 recommendation.

Excellent lens that 70-200; have that mounted on my second body; doesn't come off. Took a while to save up for it (Canon double rebate offers are great incentives) but it was worth it.
