Hi, I'm considering getting one of these, or the II version to use at weddings and for studio/outdoor portrait work.

Does anyone use these at weddings?? Not only for the formals, but for candid's and such.

I'll be using it on my 1D MK II or my 5D, and i'd like to know just how slow the AF would be using AI Servo.

For posed shots, the AF speed shouldn't be a problem. Its more the tracking side of things I'm worried about. Not that i'll be tracking people moving real fast, but if I shoot wide open, I know that the DOF is very small, so i'd like things that I want in focus, to be in focus. Does that sound right??

Hope to hear some helpful good or bad comments!!

I borrowed the I version for a month before I got my II. I never found it much of a problem shooting the version I. I got the version II because I had to give the ver. I back. When shooting with that lens I focus and shoot all in one push. Keeper rate is much higher that way.

I've only had a quick play around with on. The 85 1.2 V1 is pretty heavy, and is pretty slow to focus because it has to be so accurate. It's quite long too, though on a full frame it's so bad. You only gain about one stop over the 85mm F1.8, which is a great sharp lens, and to be honest using it at F1.2 your depth of field is going to be so narrow it's almost non-existent. I'd start with the 85 1.8 then move up if you really like it.

I didn't have or noticable problem with AF or AI Servo. Here's a shot of the couple walking to me. I think the colors are just insane!
