I just bought a new XTi (couldn't be happier) and need a small protective bag for it. I already have the large bag that comes with the starter kit, but I am going to Europe next month and want something more portable. Any suggestions?

What will you be carrying in the bag, that will help with our recommendation.

Get a backpack, they're well padded and make is easy to take your gear anywhere. I have a Tamarac Velocity 9, I got it for around $34, and its great for hiking, or just walking around.

Walking around I'll just be carrying the camera, a lens, a small cloth, and a spare battery. I'll take a look at backpacks today.

I like the LowePro Slingshots... 100 or 200 would be good.
Kata H-212 I think is another good one.

Heh gary88.
If its just for walking around with very little kit as you described then a back pack will be over kill. It would be useful long term when you buy tons more other kit. LOL.
Have a look at the Tamrac adventure series also. You sound like you don't want an all singing all dancing bag. You could always buy two... one to store all your kit and the other for when you go walkabout.
