Hello all, this is my first post after having read numerous sites trying to learn learn learn about photography. After owning quite a few 35mm P&S Camera's, I decided to get something a little better in order to take some quality photo's of my upcoming wedding. There's been a Bridal shower so far, but I'm off to the Carribean shortly for the ceremony. It's being held at 4p.m and photo's should follow shortly after. I'm guessing between 4-6.

The camera I just picked up is a Digital Rebel, along with a tripod, accesory bag, and remote. The lens is the 18-55mm.

I'm wondering if anyone had some advice (be it specific or general, I'm all ears) regarding how to go about taking the pictures. I have a couple of weeks to experiment in the morning and evening when the sun might be similar. I'm just not sure whether the way to go is a complete auto mode, or maybe try some of the manual modes to get something better. If I did go Auto, would the "portrait" setting help me out, or limit me?

Any insight, advice, tips, etc would be incredible.

Lex

My apologies to forum members. I've searched through the forum and just now realize that this seems to be a topic that comes up quite and often and is usually beaten to death.

Sorry for the interuption.

No worries Lex..
We'll cut you some slack seeing as how life has given you some clearly more difficult tasks.. (ie: dealing with that Kryptonian..)

Do check out the "Top Tips" Sticky in the "EOS" forum.. I beleive there you can find a link to "So you want to try Wedding photography" among other such gems.

Welcome to the Forum :)

Give my regards to Lionel,..

...and do try not to buy us out in any hostile take overs.. 'kay?

Hmm.

If you are the groom and want to shoot the wedding yourself, then maybe the G5 with the swivel-LCD might be better suited. That way you see how you will look on the photo when you take it .

Best regards,
Andy
