Which function should I use? Program's AWB? Tungsten? Automatic?
Furthermore, vivid or neutral?
I own the A540PS.
The reason I'm asking for insight is because my brother is getting married on Sunday.

It's up to you. Some of us (wedding shooters) like to use the manual, Av or Tv and some use P. I tend to mix it up depending on what works best. And I do adjust for tungsten or florescent depending on the conditions. If the WB is still weird, I shoot automatic and adjust it later in PS. There is no right answer here, just what you prefer and enjoy working with. I will try some custom setting as well using flash.

id put it on auto-white balance and use a flash. that way lighting wont be too far off. but, id also shoot available lighting to get some more natural looking shots. you can always fix the off color with some PP.
or if u read in the forums, shoot raws.

You probably don't have enough time now to learn the differences in white balance or the shooting modes to make that much of difference. Too much info to take in and practice to get the right level of good and bad experience before Sunday.

Why don't you set most of the functions to auto and use it in AV mode. IN this mode you only need to worry about how much of the scene you want sharp (background nice and blurry for portraits) and let the camera worry about the flash.

You can then always come back to your shots and post process to the best of you abilities to make them look better.

Youre not the main shooter, right? But you want to take some cool looking pics. That's good.

Thank you guys.
You are correct, Rammy, I'm not the event's photographer, but I want to practice my techniques because I'm new to this field of photography.
I'll listen to your tips, and try to use aperture (AV) so I can take blurry background photos and sharp objects.
Nevertheless, I want to try the P mode because I like it so much, so I might aswell take some Program photos, just to experiment and master that mode(maybe even a few B/W/Sepia pictures).
I think that I'll shoot a lot using the Vivid function. Vivid/Neutral.
I can't seem to comprehend how the 'custom color' function actually works. Everytime I press it I get blue/red/blue/sharpness/contrast modes, and I can adjust them, but I don't see any significan result.
Moreover, I don't understand how the 'blue/red'green' functions work. If I adjust the red color to the maximum and the blue&green to the minimum, will I be able to get red-like picturese?

If you want to sue the Program mode then check out how the Program Shift works so you can try different shutter and aperture speeds.

Sorry, don't know how custom colour works but it does sound like picture styles. Try positionin a red, green and blue item in a single shot and then playing with the controls and see what affects you get.
