hey all, I did my first indoor party shoot with my new XTI, 430EX flash and my 28-135mm is lens. I read alot of the flash tutorials on here and so glad I tried the bounce lighting. What a difference that made! I only used direct flash once to show the difference.

The lighting in the bounced shots certainly looks more natural. What angle did you have the flash head set to? Were you using any sort of diffuser or bounce card?

I followed your tips actually, well tried to. I pointed it straight up. On the 3rd pic I did a slight angle because the ceiling was at a slight angle, which is why you can see the flash in the glass behind them. I ordered a stofen diffuser but it's still in the mail, so this is just the camera, lens and 430ex flash. I totally forgot to try that 3x5 bounce card trick I saw in your write ups. Thanks for taking the time to do those write ups, they helped make some memories :)

I totally forgot to try that 3x5 bounce card trickYeah, that's why I asked. These are very nice, and a bit of fill from a bounce card I think would be beneficial.
Watch out for those window reflections - They can really mess up the metering sometimes.
Keep up the good work!

You have a pull up bounce card in the 430.

You have a pull up bounce card in the 430.If you're referring to the catchlight panel, the 580EX has one, but the 430EX doesn't.

Oops .. my memory is worse than I thought .. thanks for the correction.

there is some sort of panel that pulls out of the 430ex where the flash lamp is. Is that a built in diffuser?

It is a diffuser, not the catch light panel.

The light panel on the 580 ex II is way to small and of course is useless if you want to use your flash in verticle position.Get the demb flip it.
