I bought my first L lens today - the 70-200 f/2.8 IS L and I love it. It was mainly bought for sports/action pictures in low light (my daughter rides horses & my son plays rugby)
This is one of the first shots with it. It's one of my daughter's friends. For me being able to freeze the action at 1/800th on a typical dull Yorkshire day makes the pain my credit card feels worth it :D
Not sure if my wife agrees though!

GReat shot and I not too far behind you. I have been taking baseball pics with the 75-300 IS USM lens and have not been all that pleased with the consistency of the photos. I shoot in RAW so I have been able to adjust post processing but it's an added PITA.

Great shot. As a father, my heart would probably be in my throat, keeping me from taking pictures if that was my daughter jumping horses like that.
I have that lens too and I got it for the same reason, fast action dog agility and herding shots mostly, although it sure does a good job with other subjects, both indoors and out, moving or not.

If you don't need the real low light ( f/2.8 ) abilities, and prefer to carry around something a bit smaller and lighter.... I highly recommend the 70-200 f/4. I love mine!

Very true, a friend has the f4 one and has taken some cracking pictures with it.
