There has not been a thread started yet so I thought I would get it going for those folks that have already started shooting This weekend is COMMUNITY CHANGE. The idea was that everyone would show how their neighborhood, city, count, state, country, territory, etc. is changing, be it through development, politics, weather or any other change. Have fun shooting.

The usual rules apply:

- take photos from sunup Friday until sundown Sunday
- post photos by Monday or when you have time.
- usual forum rules for image posting apply which means max 800 pixels on longest side and max 2 attachments.

Have fun.

Nice theme ... a good excuse for me to shoot local and get to know where I live :-)

Mike, thanks for the thread....and the several other ideas. I was only thinking about the changes due to development...although that is probably the only thing I will be able to catch this weekend.

Wow, I am the first one to post my pic and it is Sunday, about 10 pm. I hope there is more to come.

I went with a friend of mine to take some Engagement Photos for his sister and her fiancé today and on the way I spotted an image that I thought would show the change of my community. Unfortunately when new housing developments go up in my area (and probably many others) the streets get littered with these damn signs telling everyone where the homes are located. As if a bunch of signs isn't bad enough, some people find the need to leave more than one for the same development (the two in the middle).

Sorry for the size but at 800 pix I had to back way down on the quality so I went for 600 pix instead.

In the Gettysburg, PA area, there is a new commercial park just east of the town and geared toward tourism. So far it boasts two upscale hotels, two restaurants, and a large movie theatre. In the picture below, the hotels are the buildings in the background, the restaurants are both in the low building in front of the hotels, and the theatre is to the camera's left, just outside the frame. More buildings are planned for the future, but things seem to at a standstill right now.

BLS definitely shows what is happening all over. Cities are constantly encroaching on the rural community and having a big impact on wildlife and nature.

In2Photos: I think that some of these Realators get carried away with their advertising, but from the looks of it there seems to be a lot of areas being promoted. It would be difficult to make them out while driving by.

Two shot of the changing face of Montreal. The first is one of St James United Church in downtown Montreal. For as long as I can remember the area in front of the church was rented out to commercial establishments to help pay for the upkeep of the church. The only thng you could see from street level was the top of the spires. They just finished renovation this year and this is what it looks like. (Sorry don't have a before Picture)

Must be on a religious kick because the second shot is also of a Church. The Anglican church sold off its property to a developer, who built a shopping complex under the church and office building behind it. Not a new development but a look at what some churches have to do to survive.

Here's a couple of low quality shots that I was able to get late on Sunday. Newquay has been the holiday capital of the UK for many years but recently, with rising property prices and cheaper flights to European destinations taking the trade, hotel owners have taken the opportunity to either convert the hotels to appartments themselves or to sell the property to developers. There are still loads of guest houses and hotels but it seems that there are now the high quality hotels doing well and the cheap hotels. The middle ground seems to be dissapearing. This site used to be one of those hotels that I would describe as the middle ground last year.

This is what the appartments are supposed to look like when it is finished.

Nice photos by all. Sure shows that the development, sometime over development, issue is international. I did take a picture for the weekend assignment, time especially computer time slipped away however. I may push the rules a bit and post yet this evening if the aformentioned times allow.

Great shots all. I sure hope we get some more though. So Becky make sure you post yours when you can.

Yes, it can be quite overwhelming. This is actually a fairly tame example. I drove by several others yesterday that are even worse and I know of an area where a friend of mine lives that has around 15-20 signs.

Thanks. My take was more on the "campaign for change" take, as the candidates for next year make their first public appearance in mass during the annual Heritage Day parade held here the weekend before July4th:

Here is a thought for the upcoming weekend...Riot of Color (stealing from a TPBM request) rather than specifying a single color, what if we chose a favorite color of our own and post two pictures dipcting that color.

Sounds good Becky, or even pictures of an actual 'riot of colour' in it's own right.

Hmm. My mind's working on this already. Hope the weather improves enough to get out with the camera this weekend... ;)

Thanks Mark, I like how you have expanded on the idea. I'll wait until my lunch hour...4 hours and see if there are other ideas or discussions. If the concensus goes with this idea I'll start a new thread then for those who start their Fridays long before I do.
