Hi all,
Currently I have 3 cheap-made-in-china AC powered optically triggered strobes with softboxes which I'm happy with. However, I'm trying to add 4th and 5th light source from my 580EX and 550EX.
I've tried 580EX to trigger 550EX, but since 580 will send pre-flash first, it will trigger my 3 strobes first. As a result, the 3 strobes will out of synch.....
I'm thinking of ST-E2, which I think will trigger the 580 and 550 which will then trigger the 3 strobes..... however, it is a bit expensive.
So, I browse through ebay and found this http://cgi.ebay.com/2-receivers-wireless-Remote-Flash-Trigger-CANON-NIKON_W0QQitemZ170124755897QQihZ007QQcategoryZ3008 7QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
Anybody tried this remote system? I'm a bit worried that it will burn my 580 and 550.....
thanks

I have a system very similar to that, and it has worked flawlessly so far (mine has a black "test" button rather than a red one, if that makes a difference :D)

That's the old Gadget Infinity wireless trigger and does not work well with the newer Canon flashes (it wont damage them but it will not fire well either) .. Gadget Infinity introduced the new V2 Cactus version of that wireless setup specifically to cure the Canon problem and it works very well with the 580.
If you search you will find a couple of threads here on the new system.

ive been threw the whole "ebay slave" system befor. Most of the differnt models and types seem to be pretty hit or miss sometimes, The ones i had never fired over 1/100, and were always miss fireing so i gave up and just got 3 pocket wizard plus IIs, and it was tottally worth it. But some people have gotten some pretty good sets of those cheap radio slaves that work really good. I just wasnt one of the lucky people

I recently bought the ST-E2 transmitter. I am totally satisfied with the funcions. In ETTL i have tested the ratios and they are great. I've also tested the triggering in manual mode and all work fine. The tests I conducted were inside and outdoors. I have not tested the distance outside but that's next. I have two 580ex and one 430ex. Hope that helps: Tony
