I was tempted to crop it closer to the main subject to get rid of the banner which I think takes away from the slightly serious tone but have left it for now. Art or arse?

Seconds after I posted my response I noticed him but had doubts if he was the subject. Maybe someone else noticed it.

It brings up the question of whether a photo should have immediate impact or if it still works if you have to think about it (much like some art works in other media)
I really like it, it looks like a still from a film. But then I took it and I therefore am a little biased :lol:

Here's one with more immediate impact, thoughts?

Hmmm, I prefer the first one, but only once you'd explained what the subject was. Hope you don't mind but I had a go cropping it...

This crop does not change a lot for me. Instead my eyes first focused on the man out of focus facing You to the left of the subject.

I like the crop, when I cropped it I had it a bit tighter.
It's difficult because I wanted to keep the bishop in but he's too far to the left of the shot
