Here is a shot of the MS Paradise cruise liner I shot and then rendered in miniature.

Before blurring the image, I ran the BuZZ filter over it to remove some of the smaller bits that tend to break the illusion and reveal the true scale of the subject(s).

Enjoy!

Looks god although the railing at the bottom should be blurred a lot more, it would be considerably more out of focus if this were a real miniature.

... the bottom should be blurred a lot more, it would be considerably more out of focus if this were a real miniature. That depends on the aperture that was used and the max ap of your lens. As this one sits, I tried it with more blur and did not like the way it turned out.

Thanx!

The question of aperture size doesn't matter actually. The further something is from the plane of focus the more out of focus it is so when you use the same level of gaussian blur for the whole bottom part of the photo it doesn't mimic real depth of field. But if you like it better this way then that's what matters.

The DoF doesn't look natural. It all of a sudden just gets blurred after a certain line. And something at that line and something at the end of the picture have the same blurriness (sp?). Have you tried to feather the selection before applying the blur (if you're using Photoshop)?

Select area of photo
Select > Feather
Enter desired amount of feathering

Did the ship have a name on it?.. Like Fascination... Imagination...?

Have you tried to feather the selection before applying the blur (if you're using Photoshop)? It was quite feathered. You end up with a heavily feathered selection when you use the gradient with the quick mask.
