Your critique is welcomed - If I remember correctly one of the members was interested in seeing the re-shoot as it was his suggestion to fill the frame with the old wooden capstan.

I think I prefer the colours of the second one, but the composition of the original.

I prefer the simple composition of the second one...especially that the wooden thing (bollard?) stands alone against the sky instead of against the breakwater.

This looks ten times better then the first one, but from perspective point of view I would still like you to go a bit lower with your camera, so the top of the lighthouse is below the top of the pole.

Does anyone have a link to the origial thread? I could not find it anymore.

The second image is stronger. The larger presence of the lighthouse works well. Good reshooting!

Thanks everyone for your comments - its certainly not an easy one to photograph as the Capstan is quite close to the edge of the pier - hence to get the shot I had to have my legs hanging over the edge of a 7 mtr drop with water below - its a dangrous thing this photography!

Martin, I couldn't find the original link either and I wasn't sure if it was yourself that had made the suggestion.

Please that you like the re-shoot and I can see what you mean about the top of the lighthouse and the capstan. I've just had a look at the other shots I took and they are all at about the same angle or higher.

However, I don't think I'll be able to re-take the shot again as the local authority were busy constructing a fence to stop people from going down and I had to ask a foreman for permission to enter and take this shot - lucky for me he also does a spot of photography and understood my interest.

If I do get lucky and get to go down again I'll remember to get lower down.

David
