I've just ordered the Canon ip6700d photo printer after reading it's excellent reviews. I'm wondering if anybody knows of a compatible ink that's results are as good (or as near as possible) to the canon originals.

Many thanks

there are reports that using aftermarket ink clogs the heads. My last printer developed clogged heads after a few (2 or so) years of using aftermarket ink. It worked one week then the next week when I tried to print a green frog picture it was off.

Tried to unclog the heads but just made it where it would not print at all.

So now I have a canon ip6600d and use only canon ink in it.

My mom has a pixma printer and uses aftermarket ink in it all the time and hasn't developed a problem. So I dunno, maybe I just got ahold of one where some part wore out a little early.

I know that aftermarket inks are not recommended and have never used them because I've seen the damage TPI can do to the printer. The biggest problem you'll face is the photos printed using TPI (third party ink) will rarely match genuine canon inks. They will also cause the interior of your printer to get all dirty and coated in ink spray and will eventually clog up the printhead. IMHO its not worth the trouble.

Thanks for the advice, looks like it's going to have to be the genuine stuff then! It does annoy me that you end up paying a fortune for the stuff,i'm no expert but i'm sure we are being totally ripped off for the genuine ink.

I have that same printer and another problem you will run into with aftermarket ink is it won't match printer profiles designed for that printer.
