Well, not exactly. This is my friend Trinh from last night. She just moved back to the states after teaching English in Japan. Here she is rocking out to Guitar Hero. She can be a ham. Shot with a 5D and a 430EX inside a plastic cup tha was sitting on the fireplace mantle. The flash also bounced off the wall behind me and illuminated the subject.

Very impromptu lighting so don't discard the "Plastic Cup" folks

What's backlighting her head/hair?

Great stuff-- almost looks like in was done in bright daylight, yet it is shot at night .

My flash unit is sitting a cup on the mantle. I triggered it with the canon SE2 wireless transmitter. The flash is basically firing directly behind her with a wide spread and is illuminating the rim around her head. The spill over light is bouncing off the wall behind me and them back on to her.

Really like the lighting. How bright was the room without flash?

When I looked at the first picture, I thought it was fill flash with a bright window or sky light from being the subject.

love the poses and the expressions... rim lighting is not my favorite on these, neither is the big light on the left.... LOVE the color of the wall..

I like them but my eye just keeps going to the light up necklace. I would get rid of that next time. Just my thoughts.

I guess I forgot to mention that these are not preplanned photos. These were from a party where everyone was playing Guitar Hero on the Xbox 360. I had my gear and was just fooling around. Yes, everyone was drunk and so was I!

very cool thanks for sharing the technique, i get it now

(i still don't have an external flash so i'm not very knowledgeable with this stuff)

still surprised at the very uniform bounce!

btw 360 rules!
